Cloudgazing

Look up in the sky! What do you see? A rabbit? A pancake? RAIN? Cloudgazing lets your mind wander to days of lying in the grass enjoying the evolving shapes of white fluffy masses. Your youngest players can handle this piece, which is played almost entirely in unison and utilizes mostly open strings. The necessary piano part will fill in the harmony and let your students focus on the basics.

The Dolphin Pool

The Dolphin Pool provides your first year students with a truly beautiful and artistic musical experience. Lilting melodies and a flowing piano part evoke the grace and beauty of dolphins enjoying a swim in the afternoon sun. Some tempo changes and a few independent lines will challenge your students but the rhythmic ostinato will help keep everyone together. Sure to be the highlight of your first-year concert!

Meditation

Who says elementary string orchestra music can’t be serious? Meditation is dissonant and dramatic but doesn’t require any advanced fingerings and has no note values smaller than a quarter note. Take a chance on this mature work for your youngest players. Includes an optional marimba part for added color.

Popcorn (with Butter!)

Let your youngest string players get in on the movie music concert by giving them this bite-sized snack. It plays like the baby sister of Leroy Anderson’s Plink, Plank, Plunk! Cellos will need to learn a tiny bit of second position but it will be worth the effort.

Procession and Dance

Close harmony and mild dissonance highlight the quirky harmony of Procession and Dance. A persistent ostinato drives the regal march, while basic first year fingerings are all that are necessary to pull off this mature-sounding work. A great opener for your first year concert!
