The Long Road Home was written for a local teacher who found herself suddenly conducting the high school orchestra after 30+ years of elementary school teaching. It combines the open sound of a pentatonic melody with close harmony and mild dissonance. The frequent meter changes give the piece an organic, almost improvised, feel. Grade 4.
